Atlanta is a metropolis filled with diverse people. You’ll see Asians, Indians, Africans, and more. I like Atlanta because of the Black business ownership, green spaces, and it’s always something to do there. I hate the traffic, but on my last visit it wasn’t that bad.
If you’re thinking about going to Atlanta here are some places you might want to check out.
1. Georgia Aquarium
It’s one of the top ranked aquariums in the US. They are open every day all year long. You can save $5 by ordering your tickets online. Tickets give you access to the sea Lion and dolphin presentation and 4D theater show.
2. World of Coca-Cola
This is a family friendly spot. It’s fun. My favorite exhibit was sampling all of the Coca-Cola sodas from around the world.
3. Professional Sports Game
You can go to a basketball game and see the Atlanta Hawks or a football game and see the Atlanta Falcons. Then there is the Atlanta Braves. The Major League Baseball team. They won the World Series in 2021. Grab some popcorn and prepare to watch a great game.
4. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Home
I’m a history geek so I definitely recommend visiting the home at least once in your lifetime. I love the seeing the architecture of older homes. I recall the tour guide showing us the dresser drawer that Dr. King’s parents used as a crib for him to sleep in.
5. Comedy Show
Like I mentioned earlier, there is always something to do. A comedy show is one of them whether it’s a regular comedy club or improv theater. A popular one is Uptown Comedy Corner. Uptown Comedy Corner is where comedian Shaun Jones (he’s from South Carolina) ripped my husband apart! We were seated in the front row, so beware. He had the crowd rolling! It was hilarious.
6. Eat
In Atlanta you we definitely find Black owned restaurants! I’ve eaten at Paschal’s, Old Lady Gang, The Real Milk & Honey, and Slutty Vegan. I wanted to try Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen but ran out of time. Their food looks delicious though.
7. Outdoor Festivals
There are many festivals in Atlanta. I’ll mention two that I’m familiar with.
- Praise in the Park – I’ve heard about Praise in the Park and said I’m going one of these days. I went in October 2021. The tickets are at least $20. They had an Allstar line up of CeCe Winans, Erica Campbell, Kierra Sheard Kelly, Deitrick Haddon, and more. It starts in the afternoon until late at night. Since my husband isn’t good with time management, we arrived at 6pm. We’d already missed 3hrs of performances.
- Atlanta Jazz Festival is held at Piedmont Park at the end of May. And it’s free! New jazz sensation, Samara Joy and my favorite vocalist, Ledisi will be two of the many performers this year.
8. Trap Museum
The young hip hop generation will enjoy the Trap Museum. I recommend going early in the day. Weekend admission is $20. I like the fact that immediately at the door there is a sign that says they are not glorifying selling drugs! It was just a part of life for some of the rappers displayed in the museum. My sister and I went last year. In our experience, there was already a line to get in, and only a certain amount of people were allowed in at a time. While waiting to get in, a Trap Museum employee announced that you could skip the line for an additional $20 per person. I was like nah, I’ll wait. In my opinion it was not worth an additional 20 bucks.
9. Botanical Gardens
All my plant moms may find this place interesting. I recommend checking their website before you visit in Spring. Sometimes all of the flowers haven’t bloomed yet.
10. Illuminarium
Here you will find laser-projected images of landscapes & wildlife plus a cocktail bar with changing virtual backdrops.
11. Jeju Sauna 24hr Spa
I’ve never heard of a 24hr spa until now! You can come in at any time. It’s located in Duluth about 45 min from Atlanta. Services include massages, mani/pedi, and body shampoo. With the admission fee, you’ll have access to pools, sauna, steam room and more.
12. Atlanta Wine Festival
The are multiple Atlanta Wine Festivals- summer, spring, winter, and New Year’s Eve. The spring festival starts this year Saturday April 15th. Tickets include a souvenir wine glass, live music, and over 50+ wine samples.
13. Apple Picking
We went apple picking in Ellijay, GA. It’s about an hour outside of Atlanta in North Georgia. That’s something you can do in the fall. I wrote about in it a previous post “10 Fun Fall Activities to Do With Your Girlfriends.”
14. Chateau Elan
The resort is on a 3500-acre estate and is Georgia’s largest wine producers. Located near the Blue Ridge Mountains about 45 miles outside of Atlanta. You’ll also have access to the spa, tennis court, golf course, live entertainment, and seven restaurants. You can do wine tastings separately for $45.
15. Skyview Ferris Wheel
The ferris wheel is located downtown. Perfect for date night. Here you can get great views of the city. The ride is about 15 minutes long.
16. City Winery
Here you can get live R&B and pop music performance, comedy show, and wine events.
17. Tyler Perry Studios
I stumbled across Tyler Perry Studios while riding around town. There was a sign along the road pointing towards it, so my sister and I turned around for a visit. We couldn’t go inside, but being on the campus was good enough. There were people out there with us taking pictures. And if you step out of place on the sidewalk, security will get you together!
18. Stone Mountain Park
It is a family friendly park. It’s been 10 years since I’ve gone, but it was my first time on top of a mountain. We took the Summit Skyride and I was scared, but I did it anyway. I remember that moment and I wanted to post on Facebook that “I made it to the mountain top!” but I didn’t post it. They also have the Scenic Railroad, SkyHike, and other kid attractions.
19. Six Flags Over Georgia
The amusement park is filled with roller coaster rides for the kids and family. Water rides such as the Tsunami Surge, water slides, and the wave pools are up my alley. They even have an app to keep you updated with ride availability.
20. Shopping
Since the pandemic, I think most people purchase items online. However, if you still like a brick & mortar, you can go to the Mall of Georgia in Buford, GA which has 3 levels and a movie theater. The Outlet Shoppes of Atlanta in Woodstock, GA is a nice area for shopping. Stores include Levi’s, Crocs, Cole Haan, Express, Lane Bryant, Nike, Torrid, Papaya, and more. If you are into luxury brands, then Lenox Square is the place for you. Here you’ll find stores like Balenciaga, Fendi, Prada, Rolex, Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and more.
I hope you enjoyed this post! If you learned about a new location or an event, let me know in the comments or send me a message!
