Easter 2021 will be different for most people. I’m grateful to be in the land of the living. My family, friends, and I are alive and well. Praise God! Ever since last Sunday I’ve been singing, “When Sunday Comes” by Daryl Coley. Check out the Youtube video I shared. I don’t know about you, but this Easter (Resurrection) Sunday has a special meaning in 2021. Sunday, April 4th will mark the first Sunday that we will come back to the house of worship after an entire year since the pandemic began. A whole year has passed and I’m ready to be in the physical presence of my church family this Sunday. Not only are we coming back together, but we’re coming back on Resurrection Sunday, the day when Jesus rose from the grave. It’s a double celebration!
Thessalonians 4:14
“For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.”
Social Distancing
Looking back, I was socially distancing, and before it was a real thing. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, my church began streaming services live on YouTube and Facebook. There were several Sundays in which I decided to stay home and attend service online. Recently I met with one of my church friends and she quickly reminded me of that.
Online service was so convenient. I didn’t have to worry about finding a good parking spot or having difficulty leaving the parking lot. This may sound bad, but I’ll be honest, I didn’t really like mingling with people after church. I just wanted to go home. Our pastor even poked fun at us who were not ecstatic to “turn to your neighbor and say…” Lord knows I was so tired of that! If you grew up in a Black church, you know exactly what I’m talking about!
This Sunday we will be social distancing as our pastor preaches. The congregation will be in the parking lot and not in the church itself. My husband and I will be in our vehicle while others have opted to sit on the lawn. Masks are mandatory outside of your car. Despite my comfort zone of being at home, I am so excited to meet again.
Here is a list of songs that I love to listen to on Easter Sunday. These songs reflect on Jesus’s love for us, dying on the cross, and rising on the third day.
