Are you familiar with Restaurant Week? Well throughout the state of South Carolina in major cities like Columbia, Hilton Head, Beaufort, Florence, Myrtle Beach, and Greenville restaurants will offer 3-course meal deals like 3 for $25 or 3 for $40 and sometimes 4 courses for $20 for a little over a week. To determine when Restaurant Week begins in your city click here.
Restaurant Week is happening now in Charleston. It started on September 4th. Due to Hurricane Dorian, the date has been extended until September 22nd. During this time I like to try a somewhat fancy or 4- 5 star restaurant in Downtown Charleston and/or surrounding areas. By the way, Charleston also has another Restaurant Week in January in case you miss this one.

1. Halls Chophouse
Prior to visiting the restaurant myself, I’d see a couple of my Facebook friends check-in at Halls Chophouse. I also did some research on it and lo and behold it was a 5-star restaurant. I decided for our 2nd year marriage anniversary that my husband and I would go there for some fine dining.
The service there is superb! From the moment we stepped in we were greeted. Our server was very attentive. And the manager on duty even chatted with us on the way out just to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. I don’t have a picture of our meal, but it was a delicious steak, with some fancy peppered corn. I managed to get a picture of the dessert and complimentary champagne that was given to us.
Hubby and I went to Halls again last year to check out their Sunday Gospel Brunch. In the past every time I wanted to go, they were booked. This time I was glad we got in. We seated upstairs. We could hear the Plantation Singers downstairs and eventually, they made it upstairs where we were sitting. They really sound good. And on top of that, the food was delicious! I decided to get the French toast. It’s the best I ever had, hands down. The all-natural syrup came from Vermont I think. The bacon, OMG was so good and thick. We had a side of eggs, but it really wasn’t needed because we were full from just the toast and eggs.
It was just announced over the weekend that the new Halls Chophouse in Summerville, SC will be opening this week. That’s a huge win for us who don’t like to drive downtown or search for a place to park.
2. Magnolia’s
My husband and I visited Magnolia’s a couple of years ago. We went for Restaurant Week on a Sunday. However, they weren’t participating in Restaurant Week on Sundays. We didn’t know until we got there, so we made a selection from their brunch menu. I went with the shrimp and grits. Now shrimp and grits are a staple in Charleston. Everyone has it. I believe this one is the best thus far. I had the fried green tomato for an appetizer and it was good too.
3. SNOB (Slightly North Of Broad)
Last night my husband and I went out to SNOB. He’s been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. Finally, there was a Restaurant Week menu that accommodated both of us. We were served with bread prior to our appetizer arriving. We both had the she-crab soup and we both didn’t like it. However, I ate mine, but my husband sent his back and got a salad instead. My entree consisted of the swordfish with bok choy and shiitake mushrooms. It was delicious. Husband had beef tenderloin steak. For dessert, I had cornbread pudding with vanilla ice cream. I cleaned my plate. Husband had creme brulee. He also had a beer made locally in Charleston that he was quite fond of.
4. 39 Rue De Jean
Like I said earlier, Charleston also has Restaurant Week in January. Last year I treated my boo to dinner at this restaurant for his birthday. The food here was good. It was busy that night with so many people that we took the first available seating. It was in an open area. I prefer a booth or a corner to feel semi-private. Since we were in the open area, various folks kept passing by and some even stopped to hold a conversation. Nonetheless, we enjoyed ourselves and our server gave the birthday guy a free dessert.
5. 82 Queen
My first visit to 82 Queen was with one of my good girlfriends. We try to go eat at a new restaurant once in a while and this was the place we chose for restaurant week. The food was good. We both had the braised beef ribs with mashed potatoes. I forgot the type of dessert, but knowing me I ate it all.
The restaurant has various sections to it. There’s a beautiful patio outside like shown in the picture. Then there’s a beautiful interior inside near the street and a porch setting in the back. My friend and I sat in the porch area. I wanted the nice area. Perhaps we weren’t dressed nice enough for the nice area. When my husband and I went, we sat outside on the patio. I love great food, great service, and a beautiful ambiance.
6. Al Di La
Al Di La is located in West Ashley, not too far from Downtown. It’s a cozy Italian restaurant. My girlfriend and I ate here last year for Restaurant Week. It was a good meal. I had a tomato soup and as of now, I can’t remember the entree. I know at the time I just wish I had a larger serving size. However, it was good. I’d go back for sure.
